What is an orthoptist?

West Coast Eye Care is privileged to have the only orthoptist on staff in southwest Florida. Kim Aouchiche, C.O. is certified in the specialized field of orthoptics. She is uniquely skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with disorders of the visual system specifically pertaining to binocular (both eyes working together) vision and eye movements.

Orthoptists typically focus on pediatric patients since many of the disorders, such as strabismus and amblyopia are best treated when diagnosed in young children. However, she also provides adult care specific to neuro-ophthalmology and adult eye muscle disorders.

Our talented orthoptist and staff make it a priority to provide a comfortable, non-threatening environment for children and their parents. We are specially trained in working with children and we try to make each visit a rewarding experience for our young patients. We also recognize and try to alleviate parental worries. We know that vision problems in young children are concerning and we work hard to provide accurate and understandable information to parents about their children’s current and future eye health.
